Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, former Governor of Kano State is a man whose story should inspire anyone with a desire to truly serve the people.
Today after a 5-hour budget session in the National Assembly, I engaged him for almost an hour more about a few things I had read about him in the past.
One of the most interesting parts of his grass to grace story was how upon his resignation as a permanent secretary and decision to contest against the incumbent Governor in 2003, he was faced with a scary financial dilemma having no money to buy even the nomination form.
One of his opponents mocked him as an aspirant who had nothing except God. A few days to close of nomination, Shekarau got a strange visitation as two men, driving a hilux van traced him to a location and delivered a sum of 2.5 million Naira to him.
Up till this moment, he doesn’t know who they were nor where they came from! Mallam Shekarau won against all odds and remained Governor for 8 years.
The former teacher, principal and civil servant is now a Senator of the Federal Republic. He is brilliance, eloquence and simplicity defined!
