WASSCE: Reps asks President Buhari to order partial reopening of schools

The House of Representatives on Tuesday called on President Muhammadu Buhari to order a partial reopening of schools to enable Nigerian final year secondary school students to sit for the 2020 West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) scheduled to commence on August 4.

This call was sequel to the unanimous adoption of a motion of urgent public importance moved by Nnolim Nnaji (PDP, Enugu) at plenary on Tuesday.

The House Committee on Basic Education and Services had last Friday asked the minister of education, Adamu Adamu, to reverse the decision barring Nigerian students from participating in this year’s WASSCE.

The committee faulted the minister for not informing the country if the decision was in agreement with other West African leaders or in consultation with the examination bodies, the state governments and other stakeholders in the education sector.
