Venue 2023: Paul Ubwa

By Denen Achussah

Orkuma Paul Ubwa is the owner of Pleasure Travels Nigeria Limited. The indigenous transport firm has dwarfed Flight transporters, the hitherto dominant indigenous name in transportation in Benue State.

Upon retirement from The Great Commission Movement of Nigeria, Ubwa settled in the private sector, playing key roles in agriculture, finance, transport and oil and gas. He is a proud owner of Pleasure Travels Transport Company Ltd, Ugbechi Oil and Gas, Ugbechi Multipurpose Cooperative Society and the fast growing Ugbechi Farms as well as Auto360 Ltd – the largest auto servicing and repairs company in Northern Nigeria.

The Kwande born is among the leading employers of labour in Benue State. He played a key role in the implementation of N-Power, a Social Investment Program of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

His contribution to the growth of Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (MSMEs) in the state are felt and was in 2016, elected Deputy President of Benue State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (BECCIMA). He would go on to serve as the chamber’s president.

Ubwa is in the contest to win the PDP ticket for 2023 Benue Governorship election to “improve agriculture and open rural roads to enable farmers transport their goods to the markets.”

If finally elected Governor, on assumption of office, the Pleasure Travels owner hopes to encourage Benue farmers to venture into processing and discourage selling yields as raw materials.

He is counting on his experience and connect to make Benue State an industrial hub through judicious application of scare resources.

Although a good manager of human resources, Ubwa is seen as a new entrant in politics and has the task of convincing politicians that he will be a “good party man” if given the chance.

What do you think? Have your say.
