I congratulate those secondary school teachers in Benue state, who on the occasion of World Teachers Day, deemed it important to present some relief materials to IDPs in the state.
Elsewhere, we have heard how teachers have been rewarded for hard work.
In Lagos for instance, a teacher has emerged the best teacher and the Federal Government has rewarded her with a brand new car.
Her first runner from a State in South West also received a reward.
Still in the area, Ogun state, two teachers sacked by the out gone adminstration have been reinstated by the present government.
In Ekiti state, Governor Koyede Fayemi has promised to commence payment of N30,000 minimum wage to workers, beginning from this month.
It is the same story in Adamawa and perhaps, elsewhere.
Congratulations to all of them.
Unfortunately, in Benue state, the story is “gbimin”, meaning nothing.
Not even an event to mark the day, perhaps to avoid platform for usual lies.
The priority in Benue is senseless borrowing to buy exotic cars for appointees, service irrelevant and duplicated appointments, meaningless travels, unnecessary renaming of streets and baseless propaganda.
Elsewhere, after politics and elections comes governance but in Benue, what thrives is all year round politics.
This is a state that has the potential for all year round farming and others.
The government has failed in its security and welfare responsibilities, yet some people without conscience come out to applaud an obviously failed government.
The problem is more of the sycophants hailing such a government and those keeping quiet or sitting on the fence for various motives, than the clueless leadership which has demonstrated lack of competence to govern a state.
