The member-elect of the House of Representatives in Ede North/ Ede South/ Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal constituency of Osun State, Hon Bamidele Salam has called on security agencies to put a halt to the on-going harassment of members of the PDP in Egbedore and Ede North Local Governments of Osun State.
Hon. Salam made this call in a release issued today is reaction to the spate of arrest and malicious prosecution of innocent members of the public by the Police.
According to the release which he personally signed, several members of the PDP in parts of Ede in Ede North Local Government of Osun and Ofatedo in Egbedore Local Government have been arrested and being molested by the police on trumped up charges in the last 48 hours.
The member-elect of the House of Representatives accused the wife of a top state government functionary as being the mastermind of the arrest of PDP members especially in Ofatedo community.
Hon Salam said the wife of the top government functionary was frustrated by the fact that the APC lost in Ofatedo in spite of her open vote buying visit to the community ahead of the last election into the state House of Assembly.
While calling on the State Commissioner of police to intervene in the matter and ensure that the Police is not turned into a tool for political persecution, the House of Representatives member-elect said it was unthinkable that a party which purportedly won an election would still be vindictive in victory.
Hon Salam also called on the Civil Society and Human rights community to take interest in the case of two party members who were shot by some soldiers in Oloba Atapara and Oke gada community in Ede during the last election.
He described the incidents as very pathetic and clearly against all civilised norms in a democracy.
