A youth leader, Comrade Usman Tanze Danjuma has said the visits of President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo to Plateau State following the killing of over 100 persons mostly women and children by suspected armed herdsmen will only be meaningful if the attackers are promptly arrested and prosecuted.
Tanze who is the former Vice President, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) north-central while reacting to the incident also called for establishment of a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to unravel the immediate and remote causes violence.
While commending President Buhari and Vice President Osinbajo for promptly visiting the state to commiserate with the government and people of the state, he tasked security agencies to be proactive in preventing such skirmishes resulting to wanton loss of lives and property.
Describing as barbaric the claim by the leadership of Miyetti Allah that the attacks were reprisal following the missing of over 300 cows, insisted that human lives were sacred as such no amount of loss could be compared to human life.
“The Press statement credited to Miyetti Allah in Dailytime.ng and Premiumtimes.com are overtly immaterial to warrant this spade of killings. No one should be above or under the law in Nigeria.
“The security agencies must move quickly in arresting and prosecuting those behind this dastard act to appease the victims and serve as deterrent to others who maybe contemplating carrying out similar attacks”.
Tanze further charge the government to ensure reclamation of land annexed by the aggressors, as well as urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to move into the troubled areas to alleviate the sufferings of the survivors.
“The destroyed communities should be rebuilt and security should be permanently stationed to forestall reoccurence of this carnage”, Tanze added.
