The Presidential candidate of National Rescue Movement (NRM) Alhaji Usman Ibrahim has sued the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for failing to sanction the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for allegedly exceeding the legal spending limit of N1billion for presidential election.
This was contained in a statement issued on the eve of the election and signed by its acting national secretary and spokes person, Mr Abdulahi Bello said it felt pained and frustrated that INEC failed to ensure that all parties adhered to the rules of the game saying it was compelled to seek legal redress in the interest of democracy and good governance.
Consequently, the statement urged Nigerians not to fall to the antics of money politics but vote credible candidates.
Full text of the statement:
PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN COUNCIL OF THE NATIONAL RESCUE MOVEMENT (NRM) ON OUR RESOLUTE POSITION IN RESPECT OF THE FEBRUARY 16TH, 2019 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
Unequivocally motivated by the key principle of Not too young to Run and triggered courageously also by the spirit of Not too poor to Run, our great party, the NRM filed in the youngest presidential candidate in the Federation, Usman Ibrahim Alhaji (UIA) and other younger candidates for various elective offices across almost all the states and local governments of Nigeria with highly strategic policy blueprint sufficient and efficacious to rescue our country from the vicious circle of political elites whom from birth to date as still milking Nigeria’s resources to survive and have shamelessly decided not to quit the scene.
Believing firmly that there will be a level playing ground for all and Sundry provided by the electoral umpire, INEC, unfortunately, and to our greatest dismay having carefully observed and studied the electoral processes, arrangements by INEC and specifically, the electioneering campaigns of the two vicious elephants of identical statue, ie APC and PDP, we in NRM felt brazenly intimidated, emasculated, painfully disenfranchised, and rigged out of the scheme even before the conduct of the February 16th 2019 Presidential election .
Furthermore, we stand bold to reiterated that the two biggest elephants (APC and PDP) in this election, have brazenly violated several provisions of our countrys electoral laws with impunity ilk of the Owellian ‘Animal Farm’, while INEC that is clearly empowered by the 1999 constitution as amended to met sanctions watches the situation either conspiratorially incapacitated or hapless and helpless. For instance, APC and PDP have pugnaciously breached the provision of the electoral act, 2010 (as amended) sections (89) to (93) via questionably orchestrated fiscal prodigalism and tragically mesmerizing financial jamborees, which obviously rendered the laws of the land, as collection of paragraphs of jokes.
However, the glaring failure of INEC in such regard to invoke it powers as enshrined in section 153 and part one of the third schedule of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended left much to be desired among other things.
Already, the Presidential Candidate of NRM had filed a legal suit on Thursday, 14th February 2019 at the Federal High Court of Nigeria assigned to Hon Justice Ahmed Rahamat Mohammed of Court 5, Abuja seeking for justice having exceeded the maximum legally allowable One Billion election expenditure for presidential Candidates as stipulated by the electoral law. This we strongly believe will ultimately triumph at the end of the day.
We therefore, call on all our supporters especially the youth (Males and females) to unite firmly on a common purpose of securing their destiny by courageously resisting the difficult and tantalizing temptation of the Naira spraying and voter-buying elephantic politicians in APC and PDP, and who at the end of the equation in truth, have nothing palpable to offer any body than; hatred , parochial divide and Rule, nepotism, empty promise, intimidation, and cluelessness about the digital world realities of today, and strictly at the direct expense of the citizens collective security, welfare, employment and National development, which are the primary essence of democratic governance.
We also wish to appeal to Nigeria Youth to vote massively for the NRM Presidential Candidate, Usman Ibrahim Alhaji (UIA) as the most youngest and viable alternative to the vegetable form of governance our country has been trapped in today.
Our great party is highly committed to the course of rescuing Nigeria from being used by the analogue elites as their permanent cash-cow or self-enrichment grazing reserve or inherited colony of a sort.
We pray for peaceful 2019 elections and the prosperity of our party and Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Thank you and God Bless Nigeria.
