Nigerian Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala emerge as WTO DG

Nigeria’s former minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has been appointed as the next World Trade Organisation (WTO) Director-General.

Okonjo-Iweala makes history as the first woman and the first African to lead the WTO.

Her term starts on the 1st of March 2021.

WTO in a Tweet on its verified handle said she emerge through a process that saw 8 applicants slugging out for the position.
