
The Nigerian Army on Thursday sought media cooperation and collaboration in the ongoing fight against Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs) in the North East.
The Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division Brigadier General Abdulmalik Biu, made the appeal in Maiduguri Borno state during a luncheon organised for Defence correspondents in the state.
According to a statement by the Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Texas Chukwu, Biu who tasked journalists on professionalism also pointed out that they are critical stakeholders in the fight against terrorists. He also stated that the luncheon was organised in appreciation of their efforts and to thank them for their good.
He noted that their partnership and continual reportage has been a vital weapon in the drive to end insurgency. He urged them to continue in the path of truth and feel free to clarify facts from the military authority before publication.
He further assured the journalists of the Division’s cooperation at all times, emphasising that the Division has competent media/public relations officers that are ever ready to attend to them.
The Acting General Officer Commanding added that the larger populace will continue to depend on the information coming from the correspondents on ground in arriving at the conclusion about insurgency in the North East.
