Over the years, the issue of state and community policing has been generating lots of controversy as most Nigerians have divergent views on the concept.
But with the current fragile security situation in most parts of the country, the Nigerian government is contemplating adopting the concept to strengthen its security network.
To this end, President Muhammadu Bihari led administration inaugurated an Inter agency Committee to study Recommendations and Implementation Strategies presented to Strengthen the nation’s Internal Security.
While inaugurating the committee, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha said the outcome was based on the study of selected African and non African countries.
He however, highlighted some overwhelming challenges facing the nation’s security.
The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, while suggesting the adoption of some aspects of the Police Act to enhance the architecture of community policing called for community ownership of the project.
The committee is expected to complete and submit its report within two weeks.
