Military, other security agencies warn against violent protests

...assured citizens of safety, stability of Nigeria

The Defence Headquarters says it will not condoned any act of violent related protest in any part of Nigeria by the miscreants and other criminal elements.

It noted that ,the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies have observed with dismay some violence-related protests across the country; particularly the increasing number of attacks on peaceful protesters by thugs and miscreants.

The Defence Media Operations, Defence Headquarters Abuja,Maj. Gen. John Enenche in a statement relayed to News headquarter noted that the military and other sister agencies will not condone this unfolding event against peace loving Nigerians.

The DHQ however warned the criminal elements who had carried out such dastardly act or have intention of engaging in it against the peaceful Nigerians to desist forthwith or have the military to contend with.

“Hence, thugs and miscreants are hereby warned to desist from engaging in violent activities against peaceful Nigerians henceforth, or face appropriate measures.

“The Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies hereby commends all citizens particularly those who genuinely express their concerns in an organized, patriotic and civil manner.

“Thus, the Military High Command duly encourages peaceful citizens to go about their normal activities without fear of intimidation or harassment as the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies are on ground for their safety.

“In clear terms, any attempt to undermine the democracy of our beloved nation under any cover will not be allowed.

“For emphasis, the Armed Forces of Nigeria remains subordinated to the civil authorities of the country with unflinching loyalty to the President Commander in Chief.”

The statement further assured the law abiding citizens of the military’s commitment in the sustenance of peace, security, and the defence of democracy in Nigeria.

The DHQ in conjunction with other security agencies however commended all citizens particularly those who genuinely express their concerns in an organized, patriotic and civil manner.

Recall that ,members of #ENDSARS and #Policebrutality protesters were attacked in Abuja and Lagos by some thugs and miscreants during the ongoing protest across the country demanding for the end of oppressive nature and unethical conduct of some officers of the unit against the Nigerian citizens in the country.

The authorities had since heeded to the demand and disbanded the unit known as Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) replacing it with Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT).
