Landlord’s son kills tenant in Ondo over rent

The son of a landlord in Akure, Ondo State has allegedly killed a tenant living in his father’s house.

The suspect, Samuel Omojola was said to have committed the crime during a fight involving his father and the deceased.

The incident occurred at Oke-Ijebu, in Akure, the state capital.

Samuel who has been arrested by police operatives was said to have killed the deceased with a plank after hitting him on the head.

It was gathered that trouble started following a disagreement with the landlord and the deceased tenant over issues bordering on house rent.

Sources said the landlord had accused the tenant of insulting him, which later degenerated into a hot argument between the duo.

Following the argument, the landlord was said to have called one of his sons, Samuel who descended on the deceased upon his arrival.

“The tenant fell on the floor and in a pool of his own blood while the concerned neighbours who came out to intervene quickly rushed him to the hospital where he was admitted and died two days after.”

The deceased family and friends were said to have mobilized to the landlord’s house and attempted to raze it after the news of the tenant’s death filtered into town.

But the timely intervention of homicides detectives from Ijapo police station prevented them from razing down the building.

One of the sources said information got to the Ijapo Police Division, that the DPO immediately drafted a team of detectives to the scene of the crime where they apprehended the suspect.

The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department SCIID for further investigation.
