The Senate at Tuesday plenary held a closed session with the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu to figure out ways to end security challenges across the country.
Disclosing the outcome of the meeting, Senate President Bukola Saraki who chaired the session, said the IG has given assurance that the force will double up efforts to tackle insecurity as characterized by armed banditry, insurgency by herdsmen among others.
For the Senate, efforts will be made to ensure that adequate funding is made available to the police as at when required for enhanced efficiency.
Speaking with journalists after the security briefing, the Police Chief highlighted strategies adopted to tackle insecurity as well as other related issues.
He also revealed that a committee had been set up to investigate allegations of rape and molestation leveled against some police officers in the raid of some night clubs in the Federal Capital Territory.
Recall that issues of armed banditry, incessant kidnappings, killings and several other crimes recurrently rocking various parts of the country have been at the forefront of deliberations at the National Assembly in recent times.
