The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has added more than 10 million new voters to its electoral registers, the majority of whom are young people, in preparation for the next presidential election on February 16, 2023.
A statement on INEC’s Twitter handle, says 84 percent of the 10.49 million voters registered during the year-long exercise that concluded on Sunday were under the age of 34.
Sokoto, Zamfara, Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, and Jigawa are the seven states in the North-West geopolitical zone that have the most registered voters, according to INEC, with 22.67 million people.
According to the figures provided by INEC, there were 84 million people who registered to vote in the general elections in 2019, but that number has risen to 96.2 million by 2023.
