The Independent National Electoral Commission will on Monday, may 27, present certificates of return to Peoples Democratic Party’s members who were declared winner by the supreme on Friday.
The event is coming in the wake of supreme court’s judgement which voided all votes cast infavour of the ruling All Progressives Congress in the last gubernatorial election in Zamfara State.
Addressing journalists in abuja, Saturday, INEC chairman, professor Mahmood Yakubu said the commission recieved the judgement and reviewed the ballot cast in that election and concluded that candidates of the peoples democratic party being the runners up in the election be recognised as winners.
Professor Yakubu cited section 179 subsection 2 of the 1999 constitution to back the decision.
He however declared Alhaji Bello Mohammed Matawalle as the governor elect while Mahdi Gusau is returned deputy governor elect.
The INEC chairman also declared pdp candidates winners of the three senatorial districts, seven federal constituencies and the 23 state constituencies of the state.
He also announced candidate of the National Rescue Movement, Kabiru Hashimu as the winner for the maru south state constituency.
Yakubu however charged political parties on responsible internal democracy,as lack of proper conduct of party primeries he said, may cause a repeat of the zamfara experience.
While the governor, deputy governor, senators and house of representatives elect are to recieve their certificates of return at the electoral institute on Monday, member of the state house of assembly will recieve theirs from the Resident Electoral Commissioner for zamfara state at inec office in gusau on Friday May 31, 2019.
