Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured the Voters in Bayelsa and Kogi States that the Commission will work with the security agencies to ensure peaceful and credible polls.
INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu who gave the assurance at a meeting of the Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) said INEC will protect the integrity of the electoral process and ensure that the will of people prevails.
Speaking on behalf of the security Agencies, the Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu, represented by Deputy Inspector General in charge of Operations, Abdulmajid Ali, assured that the Nigeria Police and other security agencies are putting efforts in ensuring that the forthcoming governorship elections are free, fair and credible.
According to the IGP, the meeting came at a right time when INEC and other stakeholders are preparing for Bayelsa and Kogi elections, adding that training and development of security personnel is very important before the election.
Giving the history of political violence, resulting in the Governorship elections declared inconclusive in the two States in 2015, the Commission is concerned about the safety of it’s personnel, properties and sanctity of the electoral process.
