A UK-based rap artist, Mz J4zzie, has revealed how working on the song ‘Sho Ready’ an Afro-rap sound, connected her to her Nigerian roots.
MzJ4zzie, whose real name is Jasmine Ilori and born in the UK to Nigerian parents, recently collaborated with a Nigerian artist, Rapture, to produce Afro-rap.
She told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on telephone that she had never visited Nigeria since she was born.
The rapper said that the Nigerian music industry had become significant in helping Nigerians in the Diaspora have a feel of their Nigerian heritage.
“This is a very big way of connecting with my roots. I was born and raised in the UK and I have not yet visited my home land, Nigeria.
“So, being involved in Afrobeats and collaborating with Rapture to produce Afro-rap sound has really allowed me to connect with my roots.
“ `Sho ready’ has been accepted because it has been trending on the social media platforms as well as gaining several airplays in Nigeria and the UK,’’ she said.
The ‘Shut Down’ crooner who is the co-founder of R-I Records based in the UK said that Afro-rap was taking over the music industry worldwide.
She said that her label would be willing to work with any Nigerian artist who would be ready to exhibit great talent and produce good sound.
