Hajia Nuratu takes over affairs of Defence Ministry as Mansur leaves

The erstwhile minister of defence Mansur Dan Ali has handed over the affairs of the ministry to the Permanent Secretary Hajia Nuratu Batagarawa.

Performing the exercise in Abuja the outgoing minister enumerated the challenges he inherited to include Boko Haram Insurgents in the North East, Militants in the Niger Delta and IPOB in the South East, Rural Banditry in the North West and ethno clashes in the North Central.

Other challenges he mentioned were ill equipped Armed Forces with low morale and the standard of disciple in the military was eroded due to partisanship over a period of time leading to neglect of its constitutional roles.

The outgoing minister also said, upon his assumption in office in 2015,the morale of both the civil servants in the Ministry and the Military personnel was at its lowest ebb

He further said despite the daunting challenges faced, his administration with the direction and support of Mr President, the Ministry of Defence was able to record several achievements.

Some of these include the review of 2006 National Defence Policy, increased operational capacity of the Armed Forces, conduct of internal security operations and degrading/dismantling capacity of Boko Haram.

Other notable achievements he said include additional procurement for critical military equipments, implementation of Group Life Assurance Policy for personnel, improved Public Private Partnership as well as increased partnership with foreign militaries.

He said it was possible for him to have this milestone achievements due to the integrity and leadership quality of President Muhammadu Buhari.

He therefore commended the untiring commitment of the Permanent Secretary Hajia Nuratu Batagarawa, management and staff of the ministry, CDS, Service Chiefs, and Heads of Agencies, Institutions and Parastatals for their various contribution towards his successful tenure as minister.

He therefore employed all the staff of the ministry to continue to work harmoniously with the Permanent Secretary pending the appointment of a substantive Minister by the President.
