The Former Nigeria Head of State, Gen Yakubu Gowon has called for the extension of the voters registration in order to enable Nigerian youths collect their Permanent Boters Cards (PVCs).
He made the call in Abuja during a youth concert for PVC awareness, organised by a Non Governmental Organization (NGO), Connected Development (CODE).
The former Nigerian president who was represented by his brother, Dr Daudu Gowon noted that it would also make the youths take part in the 2019 elections.
He stressed that the experience of youths in this present voters registration exercise had not been encouraging.
“I came here so that I can talk to people who don’t have PVCs but if you don’t have please make it a point of civic responsibility that you go and get the PVC. The closing date is August 17 but I want to appeal to the government to please extend this date so that people will be able to register.”
He further called on INEC to put in place mechanism and make the method of getting the PVC much easier as such would allow people to get involved in the registration process.
