The Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), for the 2023 General Elections, in Benue State,Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has admonished the Governorship Campaign Council (GCC) on selfless leadership enablement with sacrifices, in the discharge of their duties, for the sake of Benue people.
Fr. Alia disclosed this Saturday November 12, 2022, while addressing the Advisory Governorship Campaign Council, Directorates, Zonal Campaign Directorates, Local Government Party Chairmen of APC, State Assembly Candidates ,State Party Exco, National Assembly Candidates, local Government Coordinators, and Secretaries of the Governorship Campaign Council, at the Inaugural Meeting/Retreat organised for them, at Royal Choice Inn Hotel, in Makurdi.
“I thank you all for my emergence as the Candidate of this great party for the people of Benue State, during our primary elections in the State. When you are different, more, usually, is expected of you. We must see these challenges as an opportunity for us to excel. We happen not to be in Government at this time. In the last Seven and Half years, we all bear testimonies to how deplorable our State has become through failure of leadership; through visionless leadership, and through resultless leadership.
“This now becomes an onus on us as a party to restore, and to recover Benue State. 2023 is a huge opportunity for all of us to do this. I thank all of you who have formed the Campaign Council, and its advisement to have accepted to do this for our State, and for our party. Now that you have accepted to do this for our State, let us ensure that we deliver our State from the hands of the wicked. Let us remember the pains that our founding fathers went through for the sake of Benue State. It is not about us but the interest of the people.
“It is about our poor people who are out there, who do not have light; who do not have bridges to access through their homes and farms; it is also about our children who have only this State as a home. What are they going to bear as their testimonies about this State tomorrow?
“We are their tomorrow and we cannot afford to fail them. Whatever Committee you are in, remember Benue State’s hands are on your shoulders. We are the assets for our party and Benue people as a whole. So we must not give room for any failure. We must make sacrifices for us to take the victory at the 2023 General Elections”, he said.
The Governorship Candidate urged the team to conduct a dispassionate cross examination on the failures of the party with reference to the 2019 General Elections, and use it as an evaluation to set agenda for the 2023 General Elections, which according to him, the victory is sacrosanct, for Benue people.
The Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Sen. Dr. George Akume, who also doubles as the Chairman of the Governorship Campaign Council, reechoed the need for Nigerians to support the Presidential Candidate of APC, and his running mate, Sen. Kashim Shettima, stressing that, “If there is any debate, it should be about power shift and not about Muslim-Muslim ticket.
“It is all about competence. Going by the past antecedence of Tinubu and Shettima, they have all it takes to deliver on the mandate of the people if given the opportunity come 2023”, and appealed to Benue people to vote for them to bring about the best of governance that will bequeath the yearnings of Nigerians.
He called on the people to continue to stand by the APC Guber Candidate, Fr. Alia, and vote for all the Candidates of the party, for a positive change that they are clamouring for.
On his part, the State Chairman of the party, Comrade Austine Agada, while thanking members of the party and Benue people, for the support thus far, expressed happiness and fulfilment that the State has been rewarded with a Governorship Candidate of their choice, and called on all and sundry to team up to actualize the mandate of electing him as the next Governor of Benue State.
In a remark, the Director General of the Campaign Council, Rev. Dr. Fredrick Ikyaan said, it became necessary for the party to put the event together to set the ball rolling for all the Directorates of the Campaign Council, to ensure that the party takes full scale of all her elective positions, at the polls, without mincing targets, and called on the Team Members to inculcate synergy, and team work, to achieve the task ahead of the party.
Highlight of the Inaugural Meeting/Retreat, was presentation of Appointment Letter to the Honourable Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Sen. Dr. George Akume, as Chairman of the Governorship Campaign Council, and officially to the Director General of the Campaign Organization, Rev. Dr. Frederick Lanshima Ikyaan, by the Governorship Candidate, His Excellency, Very Rev Fr Dr Hyacinth Iormem Alia, as well as Directors/Deputy Directors of the Campaign Council, by the DG of ALIA/ODE GCC, 2023.
