
He won the keenly contested governorship primary of the party held on Saturday in Ado Ekiti with 941 votes counted against 31 other candidates.
In the rescheduled primary election that was held in the state, the immediate past governor defeated other aspirants to clinch the ticket of the party with his closest rival being another former governor and current deputy national chairman (South) of the party, Chief Segun Oni.
Fayemi will now face the incumbent deputy governor of the state, Professor Olusola Kolapo who on last Tuesday emerged the candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the state.
