According to the United Nations Children Education Fund (UNICEF), all Children no matter where they live or circumstances have right to education.
It is however unimaginable that one in every five of the world’s out of school children is in Nigeria.
With the Northern states of Nigeria contributing more of the 13.5 million out of school children in the country,it is not surprising that the federal government and International development partners are implementing initiatives aimed at tackling the Menace.
One of such programme is the cash transfer policy currently being implemented in Zamfara, Kastina, Sokoto and Kebbi states.
In Kebbi state, Nine local government areas are benefiting from the initiativee which presently captures over 7000 parents who are paid 8000 naira every term to fund their children’s education.
The policy no doubt is gradually yielding the desired results.
However, baring in mind it has a year 2020 lifeline, the Kebbi state government says it is putting in place measures to ensure it is sustained and implemented in other parts of the state.
But how can the beneficiaries on their part sustain the gains already recorded.
The cash transfer programme is modelled to capture about 500,000 out of school children by 2020 in the affected states.
