The chief of Army staff (COAS) Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai has commissioned NAOWA College Kurudu, a school initiated, constructed and furnished by Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) to enhance a conducive learning environment
Commissioning the facility in Abuja, the COAS commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his moral support and commitment in making sure all the projects of the NA receives due considerations.
Gen. Buratai who was the special guest of honour also commended the NA engineers for the execution of the project as well as the leadership of NAOWA for their resilience and commitment.
“We must commend President Muhammad Buhari for not only appointing me, but giving us all necessary support.
“We want to thank Mr President for all the moral support we have been getting”.
COAS also explained that some basic necessities such as water and light and enabling environment are provided to the estate to make life better for the retired officers who are living in the area
“Though some officers and soldiers their children have passed school age ,but some are still in school. It is a laudable project and we appreciate the efforts of our officers and men.
“We had good support from the Air Force, Navy and Police Officers Wives Association here.
“As you are all aware, we have embarked on a number of projects some are new and some are old.
“This I assure you is a project of the Army and would continue to be executed as long as funds are available,” Buratai explained.
Buratai who describes the project as up to international standard said he was impressed with the quality of work done by NA engineers and expressed his confidence in their capacity saying that they have come of age.
He also assured NAOWA of NA’s support in making sure that all the organization’s laudable project are given due considerations.
“We will continued to support NAOWA to do more for the Nigerian Army and humanity”.
He therefore assures his royalty to supporting the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari .
Earlier in her speech, the President Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA),Mrs Ummah Kusum Buratai said “education is the light that helps a child to see beyond the border and become great in future” ,emphasised that the the school will provide British and Nigerian curriculum for learning.
Mrs Buratai said, her organization is a vanguard for community development has provided more progressive and developmental projects all over the country such as schools, hospitals, skills acquisition programme and empowerment.
She also acknowledged that in order to reduce maternal and child mortality rate ,a specialist health care facility will soon be commissioned in Abuja by her administration.
She expressed delight that NAOWA schools all over the country has received transformation to world class standards.
Mrs. Buratai who is best known as “Mama Continuity” commended her predecessors Mrs. Mnenna Ihijirika, as well as Mrs. Feli Minimah for the role played during their tenure as the presidents of NAOWA specifically in education.
She therefore thanked the COAS for his moral support to the NAOWA.
The project which was conceived in 2014, upon it’s completion consists of of 18 classrooms, 300 capacity assembly hall, well furnished computer rooms ,office accommodations, laboratories amongst others.
Those who attended the ceremony were the COAS, top military officers, representatives of NAOWA, POWA, DEPOWA, community leaders, management and staff of the college, as well as students.
NAOWA is a non governmental and charitable organisation who focuses in developmental and human capacity programme as well as the welfare of the wives and children of both serving and retired military officers in Nigeria.
