
The Vice-Chancellor, Benue State University, Makurdi, Professor Tor Joe Iorapuu, today received members of the National Universities Commission (NUC) Accreditation Team led by Professor Sanusi Muhammed of the Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto for B.Sc. Plant Science and Biotechnology Programme in the Department of Biological Science, Faculty of Science.
Receiving the Team, the Vice-Chancellor expressed the readiness of the University for the exercise. He affirmed that through the exercise the University would be able to know the weaknesses and strength of the programme so as to enhance quality manpower development.
Responding, the Team Leader stated that accreditation is a routine exercise in the University and not a fault finding mission to victimize or intimidate any institution but to strengthen the programme to enhance teaching, learning and research.
Other members of the Team include: Professors Polycarp N. Okafor, Michael Okpara University, Umudike; Adesola A. Ajayi, Augustine University, Ilara-Epe, Lagos and Ohene John as NUC representative.
Since assumption of office, November 3, 2020, the Vice-Chancellor has received NUC Accreditation Teams for B. Sc. Statistics, B.Sc. Physiology, B.Sc. Political Science, B. Sc. Anatomy and Resource Verification for B.Sc. Radiography and Radiation Science, including Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria on Advisory Visit for the commencement of B. Sc Nursing Science.
At the Postgraduate level, the following courses also under went accreditation within the period; Masters of Public Administration, M.Sc. Public Administration and Business Management (MBA) which were all accredited by the National Universities Commission.
At today’s engagement, members of the University Management in attendance were: Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Mike Odugbo Odey; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Simon Terver Ubwa; Provost, College of Health Sciences, Professor Linus Chia Saalu; Registrar, Dr. Mrs. Mfaga Modom, Bursar, Mr. Amos Egwurube Otse and the University Librarian, Prof. Innocent Isa Ekoja represented by Dr. Nancy Ugbagir.
Others present included: the Director, Directorate of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance, Prof. Kenneth Efosa, Deputy Directors: Dr. Naomi Doki and Dr. Philip Bagu as well as the Dean Faculty of Science, Prof. Bernard Ortwer Atu and Head, Biological Sciences, Dr. Pauline N. Akombo.
