The Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency Dr. Samuel Ortom, has assured Benue people of his administration’s resolve to partner with the traditional institutions in the state in the fight against insurgency and other forms of criminality.
Governor Ortom disclosed this today in Abuja during a workshop on Mediation and Negotiation Training for Traditional Rulers in Nigeria, organized by Center for Humanitarian Dialogue, CHD, Abuja, Nigeria.
Represented by his Special Adviser, Bureau of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ken Achabo, the Governor acknowledged the role of traditional Rulers in conflict management, considering that they are the custodians of culture and often fingered in internal conflicts within their domains, stressing that the training was important as it will enable the Royal Fathers acquire necessary skills to manage both internal and external conflicts.
Hon. Achabo hailed the Governor for his immediate approval and release of funds to enable traditional rulers attend the workshop in Abuja.
He commended the Governor for his untiring sacrifices and efforts to de-escalating internal conflicts among communities in Benue State as well as finding lasting solutions to the incessant Fulani Terrorist invasion of Benue Communities to enable displaced persons return to their ancestral homes to continue with farming activities.
The Special Adviser further thanked Benue people for their individual and collective efforts, sacrifices and involvement in the fight against insecurity, assuring that the Benue State Government will sustain partnership with the traditional institution in the fight against insecurity to achieve the desired stability and Peace.
He further thanked the organizers of the event for providing a platform to help traditional Rulers improve on their knowledge of conflict resolution and peace building within their domains.
Recall that Benue is one of the many states of Nigeria currently facing incessant attacks by armed Herdsmen on unarmed farmers resulting to displacements, destruction of properties and killing of innocent lives.
