t had been a lengthy and complicated procedure for the people of Agasa and adjoining communities in Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State to make a to and fro 2 kilometers journey to Okene town.
It was a complete rigmarole process as these communities were totally cut off as a result of gully erosion which had caused several deaths, destruction of property and loss of both farming and residential lands.
Being an agrarian settlements, Existence of the residents in these communities had been an uneasy dichotomy. While they prayed for rainfalls for their agricultural activities, they feared the expansion of the gully erosion and its calamitous effect during the raining season.
Today, the effort of the state government under the leadership of His Excellency Yahaya Bello has brought succor to the people of the areas as the age-long erosion is being controlled and lost land reclaimed through the counterpart funding agreement with the NEWMAP. In addition, a GYB standard road network has also being constructed to link the communities which were hitherto divided.
These are the images of gully erosion control, land reclamation and road network in Agasa and Ozuri in Okene and Adayi Local Government Areas of Kogi State.
