Be responsive officers, Buratai charges officers, men of Nigerian Army

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai has called on the officers and men of the Nigerian Army (NA) to build up the intellectual and physical abilities and be professionally responsive to the discharge of their constitutional duties.

Buratai made the call in the workshop organised to train NA’s personnel to transform their leadership values in Abuja.

He said, “Leadership is core to military professionalism. Leadership skills equip personnel with abilities to control their interference. This conference is designed to control the intellectual and physical abilities of the fighting components”.

He further said, any professional NA needs to build up a moral components, develop consciousness and respect for leaders.
Lamented that there is a decline in the professionalism globally.

He said the workshop is designed to preach and teach the new generation of soldiers the essence of professionalism and commitment in service as well as to mentoring the soldiers inline with his vision of building a NA that is more responsive to it’s mandates.

Speaking earlier, the Coordinator of Army Transformation and Innovation, Major General Felix Agugo said the conference is designed in line with COAS’s vision in encouraging professionalism as well as improving the willingness of service of the NA personnel in performing their expected duties.

“This workshop will expose participants to a number of things in Nigeria that they can take pride in, thus clarifying the imperatives of patriotic citizenship and national loyalty even in the face of globalization and emerging technologies.

“It will interrogate the understanding of service, sacrifice and honour among the participants and provide them with worthy examples to emulate”.

The three day event has a theme “Lead, follow or Get Out of the Way” will at the end expected to instill in the participants a good leadership values and skills.

The team of the resource persons that were expected to give talk in the conference were experienced retired security officers with proven records of capacities, diligence and commitments.

Those in attendance were Principal Staff Officers from the Army Headquarters as well as resource persons from the media sector including retired Servicemen.
