The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will focus attention on the legal framework among several areas of reform towards improving electoral process in Nigeria.

INEC Chairman Mahmood who made the disclosure in Abuja while meeting with the visiting special representation of the Secretary General for West Africa and the Sahel, said the commission submitted detailed proposal for the amendment of it’s electoral laws in the light of it’s experience from the 2015 general elections and numerous off season elections.

Mahmood noted that the commission hopes to conclude the ongoing review of the 2019 general elections in the next two months.

According to the INEC boss, the reviews have become standard practice by the commission and involve all stakeholders across the electoral process.

Earlier in his address, the Secretary General for West Africa and the Sahel and head of UN office for West Africa, Mohamed Chambas said the aim of their visit was to seek to be part of the part of the structural conversation which has been initiated by the Chairman of the Commission, as according to him, the UN is interested in women and youths inclusiveness in the electoral process in Nigeria.

INEC however reiterated the commitment to continue with it’s consultative meetings with all stakeholders.
