The Federal Government has called on Nigerians not to Panic at the sight and sound of flights manoveurs by the military jets within the Federal Capital Territory airspace saying it is part of preparatory activities for the 2018 Independence day Celebration.
The Permanent Secretary in the Office the Secretary to Goveenment of the Federation who also doubles as the Chairman of Central Organizing Committee of 2018 independence day Celebration, Mr. Gabriel Aduda who made the call while briefing journalists in Abuja on the lined up activities to mark this year’s Independence Day Celebration said the peculiar movement of flights in Abuja is due to the rehearsals of military who are also part of the celebration.
He solicited the support of Nigerians to ensure a hitch-free 58th independence Anniversary celebration.
According to him, “the freedom of the country did not come on a platter of gold ,our founding Fathers fought hard for it,we need to occasionally remind ourselves that inspite of diverse challenges,our nation has come along way and remained one and indivisibl”, he said.
Mr. Aduda said the activities for the 2018 Celebration will begin from Tuesday 25th September to Thursday 27th September 2018,with a photo exhibition on national history, National lectures and juma’at prayer,special children program with the wife of the president Dr. Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, as well as Interdenominational Church service at the National Christian Center Abuja.
He said on the morning of Independence Day ,monday the 1st of October 2018 there will be Presidential broadcast by President Buhari at 7:00am followed by independent at the Eagle square and Gala night at the state House .
The committee has carefully crafted the theme of this years’ Independence celebration as “Harnessing Our Diversity For National Development”.
